Obverse die from Nicopolis ad Istrum - 4 assaria

The following is an attempt to catalogue every obverse and reverse die combination that exish for the mints producing large volumes of Diadumenian coinage. This is an ongoing exercise that I will update as I acquire (or am made aware of) more examples. The die tables show the links between the obverse and reverse dies of all the examples I have images for. In most cases an obverse die can be linked to many different reverse dies (the obverse die is the one fixed in place and the reverse die is the hand held one that is struck with the hammer and so tends to break more easily) however there are instances of the same reverse being used with more than one obverse. If you have an image of a coin not represented, that should be included - please let me know .

Note 1: These are also saved as .pdf files which may cause a pop-up-blocker to activate. I will update both of these formats as new examples become known so I will put the date of last update beside them. The html versions are easy to read online but personally I find the .pdf version better at showing the images. The images are saved in as high a resolution as I can get so it should be possible to maginfy the pdf's for closer inspection.

Note 2: It has not been possible to attribute each of these images, where they are not my own, to specific owners (due to the nature of the file and matching process) but most of these have been already used in other parts of the site where the attribution has been given. The purpose here is an acedemic one where I hope to establish what combinations of dies exist. Interpretation of these matches I will leave to those more qualified. Some of the reverse dies can be linked to Macrinus obverses but that is presently outside the scope of these pages.

Note 3: While I certainly don't mind anyone using these tables in the furtherment of their studies or hobby, if quoted, I would be grateful if this source could be acknowledged as I have spent a fair bit of time on them.
